Birth in a hospital setting has become normalized as a medical experience, and it often is.

➜ There are guidelines, timelines, routine procedures and policies in place, but they’re simply offers of care. You have the right to accept them or not.

➜ You have the right to individualized care from midwives, doctors and nurses.

➜ There are procedures developed specifically to deal with emergency situations when truly necessary for the baby or, very rarely, for the mother.
